Development of an FPGA-based realtime DAQ system for axion haloscope experiments

Abstract A real-time Data Acquisition (DAQ) system for the CULTASK axion haloscope experiment was constructed and tested. The is an to search cosmic axions using resonant cavities, detect photons from conversion through inverse Primakoff effect in a few GHz frequency range very high magnetic field at ultra low temperature. DAQ utilizes Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) data processing Fast Fourier Transformation. This design along with custom Ethernet packet designed transfer enables 100% efficiency, which key feature compared commercial spectrum analyzer. optimally RF signal detection experiment, 100 Hz resolution 500 kHz analysis window. noise level of averaged over 100,000 measurements around -111.7 dBm. From pseudo-data analysis, improvement signal-to-noise ratio due repeating averaging this confirmed.
